Alberto Ignacio Gabriel, M.D.

Dr. Alberto I. Gabriel, who retired with the rank of Colonel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Service, is a physician-surgeon. As a soldier and medical officer, he showed his determination to address his mission to serve the teeming population who direly needed care and support in high-intensity conflict areas in Jolo, Mindanao.

He gained recognition in military service and was decorated medals such as Military Civic Action, Presidential Unit Citation, Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation, Mindanao Sulu Campaign, Wounded Personnel and Military Commendation.

After three decades of service in the AFP, he rose from the ranks and assumed more responsible positions such as: Chief –Infectious Disease Service; Head – Department of Medicine; Commanding Officer – Institute of Health Research; Commanding Officer – V. Luna General Hospital and Medical Officer of the Philippine Army as the Army Chief Surgeon.

He authored numerous health policies for the Armed Forces of the Philippine in the context of Public Health interest for the soldiers and their communities; introduced innovative prevention strategies to reduce unnecessary death of soldiers in the frontline through the training on Combat Life Saver Course for soldiers and formulated a new Physical Fitness Test for Filipino soldiers in 2006

He received the PMA Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Award for Government Service in 2008.

Dr. Gabriel took up his Masters in Business Administration at the Wesleyan University in 2001.

He is happily married to Dr. Fe Garcia with whom he has five children.
