Amelia Belandres-Miranda, M.D.

Amelia Belandres-Miranda, M.D. has taken on the noble path of conducting and organizing medical missions in far-flung areas in the Philippines after she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Santo Tomas in 1958.

Miranda pioneered writing health columns entitled "Karunungang Pangkalusugan" in the family-owned Wakasan Comics Magazine in the early 1960s. She then established her EENT medical practice in Kalinga Apayao in 1969 where she regularly went to the province's barrios for several medical missions.

She also hosted a weekly health program over Radyo ng Bayan in Northern Luzon. Miranda continues to write medical columns and broadcast in her radio programs. In 1995, she received the Jose Rizal Award for Rural Physicians for her selfless dedication and heroic medical services in rural areas.

Miranda remains committed to her medical missions as she continues to go the farthest barrios in the Cordilleras to reach out to the those in need of free medical assistance.
