Atty. Salvador Lao

Atty. Salvador B. Lao's congenial nature has made it easy for him to win friends and with facility, earn their trust, respect and cooperation. This quality of his proved tremendously beneficial when he became president of various professional and socio-civic organizations including the World Association of Law Professors (2003-2005), the UST Alumni Association (1999-2003), UST Law Alumni Foundation, Inc. (1990-1996). He was also once a committee chair of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the secretary of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Philippines (1996-1998).

His amiability is also what endears him to his students and colleagues at the Faculty of Civil Law, where he has been teaching for quite a while now. In the field of legal practice where Atty. Lao is known, he has received countless recognition and awards for his invaluable contribution to the practice of the profession. He is the founding partner and head of the Lao Veloso Lao Law Offices.

His colleagues in the field call him a "true Thomasian Christian lawyer". He is not only active in church and parish-related activities, but he is also active in the Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Philippines.

Another facet of his character is his being a writer. He wrote for and edited law journals and other publications related to law. In 1971, he was named legal adviser of the COMELEC during the election of delegates to the Constitutional Convention.

The Albay-born Lao is a true blue Thomasian having graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 1965 from the Faculty of Arts and Letters, Arts, Magna cum Laude and from the Faculty of Civil Laws, earning a degree in Bachelor of Laws, Cum Laude in 1969. He is married to the former Arsenia N. Veloso, also a lawyer. The couple have five children. Atty. Lao was born on November 5, 1944.
