Jose Limjoco Evangelista, M.D.

Dr. Jose L. Evangelista, who marched as President of his Graduating Class in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1968 has been in private practice in Internal Medicine/Cardiology in Livonia, Michigan for the past 34 years. He is Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases Subspecialty and Nuclear Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonograpers as well as the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada.

He is very active in his professional, community and civic affairs, in his capacity as president of various Filipino-American associations-- both local and national such as the UST Medical Alumni Association in America, Philippine Medical Association of Michigan and the Association of Philippine Physicians in America. Together with his wife, Stella, they share the distinction of being the first Filipino and first couple to be inducted to the International Heritage Hall of Fame of Metro Detroit in its 83-year history.

During the presidency of Bill Clinton, he was appointed to the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation in the USA.

Dr. Evangelista has been a recipient of numerous awards and distinctions through the years, among them the Twenty Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the US, Flag Award for Outstanding National President of the Michigan State Medical Society, Archbishop Medallion Award for Most Outstanding Professional by the government of Pampanga and Outstanding Leadership Award by the Philippine Medical Alumni Association of America.
