Mr. Victor Emmanuel Carmelo D. Nadera, Jr.

Mr. Victor Emmanuel Carmelo D. Nadera, Jr. is an award-winning poet, fictionist, playwright, and essayist. Aside from a novel, he has published three collections, an epic, and a research on the use of poetry as therapy. He has pioneered poetry therapy in the Philippines as he combines his expertise in clinical psychology and poetic flair. Eventually, thi groundbreaking undertaking of his has become instrumental in coming up with "Asia's first expressive arts workshop" at the National Arts Center in 1995 and the staging of his satire "Sens Op Tyumor" in which victims triumphed as actors on stage in 1996.

Until now, Nadera still conducts poetry workshops at the Stairway Foundation in Puerto Galera, Mindoro. Moreover, the Philippine Society for Oncologists is currently supporting him through its outreach program called "Three Ps" in various hospitals. Nadera has penned books such as "Kayumanggi: Poesiya/Potograpiya" (2006), "Itago Ang Pamamanas, Ang Pamamaga'y Sa Labas" (2004), "Asinta: Mga Tula at Tudla" (2002), "Poetreat: The Use of Poetry Therapy in Mutual Sipport Groups of Cancer Survivors in Metro Manila" (2000), "MujerIndigena"(2000), "15Lamang"{2000), and "Dalit, Galit, Halit, Malit, Ngalit, Palit, Salit" (1993).

His literary mettle has earned for him several presitigous awards including the 2006 Southeast Asian Write Award, National Book Award from the Manila Critics Circle, Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (Poetry), Carlos Bulosan Award for Poetry, The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) conferred by the Junior Chamber of the Philippines, UP Gawad Chancellor as Outstanding Artist in 1999 and from 2002 to 2004, and the Poet of the Year from the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa in 1985.

Nadera has also played active roles in the literary circles. He has been affiliated with professional organizations and national commissions where he held several posts including Secretary General of the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL), Founding President and/or member of the Linangan sa Imahen at Retorika at Anyo (LIRA), Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) Writers Bloc, and the Kapisanan ng May K sa Pilipinas (KMKP), representative for Southern Luzon at the Committee on the Literary Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and member of the Technical Panel for Literature of the Commission on Higher Education.
