Penk Tan-Ching

Ms. Penk Tan-Ching is the legendary cake designer and proprietor of Pastry Bin, which styles and executes Manila’s finest wedding and birthday cakes. She authored a coffee table book, “Caked in Sugar”, which chronicled her professional journey from baking hobbyist to top cake artist.

Ms. Ching conducts cake decorating demos for schools, companies, local and international baking enthusiasts and she is the only non-chef Cake Stylist to serve as judge for different culinary competitions.

In the recent Beijing Olympics, she was commissioned to create the Beijing Olympic Bird’s Nest cake in 2008 sponsored by the Coca-cola China Olympic Group, which earned accolades for the Philippines, as it was considered a work of art by the discriminating international press.

Ms. Ching has been awarded as the Outstanding Small & Medium Scale Entrepreneur Award in 2000 by the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry for introducing and promoting to the world the Filipino talent in cake designing artistry and has won a highly commendable rating for Wedding Cake top category at the British Sugarcraft Competition in 2000.

As a business management expert, she prepared and analyzed reports on the financed projects of the United Nations Financing System for Science and Technology (UNFSSTD) in developing countries.

She took up her Master of Science in Management at the Arthur D. Little Education Institute, Massachusetts in 1984 and completed her Post graduate studies in Economics at the Columbia University in 1984.

She is married to Eduardo Ching, a 1979 graduate of UST’s College of Commerce.
