Dr. Angeles Tan-Alora

Dr. Alora, chosen as one of the Outstanding Teachers of 1992 by the Metro Bank Foundation, graduated cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and later pursued further studies in Tropical and Infectious Diseases as her clinical specialty.

At present, she is a full professor at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery where she also held the position of Chief, Section of Infectious and Tropical Diseases for some time. After obtaining her M.A. in Education from De La Salle University in 1973, she has deeply involved herself with the National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions, University of the Philippines, where she served as professor and later its director for several years.

Realizing the need to upgrade the competence and quality of teaching in the health care professions, Dr. Alora committed her self to teacher training and skills development especially for medicine and nursing. She was later .appointed chairman of the Department of Medical Education at UST and the Commission for Continuing Medical Education of the Philippine Medical Association. She has prepared various self-instructional modules on varied topics as How to Lecture, Grades & Grading System, Improving Test Items, Non-Maleficence and Autonomy.

In 1990, she was appointed member, Board of Medical Examiners, Professional Regulatory Commission. In addition to her teaching career, she is currently the executive director, Southeast Asian Center for Bioethics, and a member, Ethics Committee, Philippine Medical Association.
