Fidel Gener Calalang, Jr.

Under his baton, the UST Singers conquered the world. Fidel Gener Calalang, Jr., conductor of the acclaimed Thomasian chorale and solo artist/composer, proves to be a man of precise musical ingenuity.

At the UST Conservatory of Music where he finished his Bachelor of Music in Piano under former Dean Erlinda Fule and Prof. Hilda Redoblado, Calalang serves as faculty member in the Piano Depart¬ment and instructor of Choral Con-ducting classes. He has made himself and the members of the UST Singers ambassadors of goodwill by bringing to various parts of the world the melodious voices of one of the University's most lauded artistic groups.

Simultaneous with the victory reaped by the UST Singers in worldwide choral competitions, Calalang managed to express his own creative output as an individual artist. In 1999, the Ojai Camerata of California, USA recognized him as the first prize recipient of the 1st International Choral Competition for Composers for his composition Pater Noster.

Calalang has also received citations from government and non-government agencies here and abroad. He was named Young Achiever for Mu¬sic and Arts in Malacahang Palace, Who's Who in Nation Building for Music, one of the Top Men and Women of the Millennium, and was chosen as one of the Three Filipino World Achievers, among other recognitions.
