Justice Alfredo L. Benipayo

JUSTICE ALFREDO L. BENIPAYO, a model student, distinguished advocate, brilliant educator, revered magistrate. This, in a nutshell is our TOTAL awardee in the field of law.

A consistent scholar. Justice Benipayo obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude, and a Bachelor of Laws degree, Cum Laude, both from the University of Santo Tomas. He was a champion orator, speaker and debater in various Inter-Collegiate and Inter-School contests, aside from his other extra¬curricular activties as the editor-in-chief of the UST Law Review, President of the UST Debating Society, and First Vice-President of the UST Central Board of Students, to mention a few. In recognition of his competence and probity as a practising lawyer, the Supreme Court, speaking through the late Chief Justice Roberto Concepcion in "Zulueta vs. Pan American World Airways, Inc." (49 SCRA 15), cited him as "one of the most distinguished members of the legal profession in the Philippines."

He is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Civil Law, University of Santo Tomas; a renowned Bar Reviewer in Remedial Law at the University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines and Ateneo Law School; and a brilliant lecturer at the Philippine Judicial Academy, University of the Philippines Law Center Institute of Judicial Administration.

He served with dedication and distinction as District Judge of the Court of First Instance of Malolos, Bulacan (October 5, 1974 to July 2, 1976); District Judge of Court of First Instance of Manila (July 2, 1976 to January 17, 1983); Regional Trial Court Judge of RTC Manila (January 18, 1983 to February 3, 1987) and Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals (February 4, 1987 to October 30, 1996). On October 30, 1996, after twenty-two (22) years of dedicated, efficient and excellent service to the judiciary, he took his oath as Court Administrator, in response to the unanimous resolution of the Supreme Court appointing him to the position.

Our awardee in the field of law brings to the office of Court Administrator a wealth of experience as a model student, distinguished advocate, brilliant educator and revered magistrate. With him at the helm, we can look forward to an improved administration of justice in our country in the days to come.
