Justice Jose Y. Feria

Justice Feria is a noted law practitioner, legal scholar and educator, as well as a respected author, commentarist, a jurist, and a dedicated public servant.
He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with the degree Bachelor of Laws as Valedictorian and Summa cum Laude in 1940 and Master of Laws, Meritissimus in 1947. He, then, became a professor at Letran College (1936-1940) and UST College of La w (1940-present). He is also a lecturer at the UP Law Center and has lectured at the "Instituto de Derecho Procesal, Colegio de Abogados" in Madrid, Spain, 1957. He has authored several books including "Civil Procedure" and "Provisional Remedies and Special Civil Actions". Having served as delegate to the Constitutional Convention in 1971, he worked for the preservation and enhancement of democratic principles and the rule of la w in the Philippine Constitution. As the foremost authority on Remedial Law, ne chaired the Supreme Court's Committee on the Revision of the Rules of Court and contributed to the improvement of due process. His legal expertise and commitment to the rule of law has been recognized in his appointment on April 11,1986 as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
His numerous awards and distinctions included Gold medal, College Editors' Guild Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest, 1935; UST Law Oratorical Contest, 1935; Outstanding Graduate Award, De La Salle College, 1961; College Editors' Guild Merit Awards, 1954 and 1971; UST ROTC Alumni Merit Awards, 1957; UST Faculty Awards for Meritorious Service, 1972; Outstanding Delegate Award, National Reporters Association of the Philippines, 1972; UP Law Center, Crystal Anniversary Award, 1978; College Editors' Guild Alumni Association Distinguished Achievement Award, 1979; and UST Law Alumni Foundation Award as Outstanding Alumnus, 1984.
